U15 v Avon 17/3/13 at St Ursula’s School, Bristol

16/04/2013 20:45

The following players played for Somerset against Avon – Rhys Coates, Tom Garty, Tom Reddaway, Dan Hiscock, Bradley O Connor, Matt England, Elli Slawin, Jordana Dabinett, Georgia Ley, Charlotte Peach, Trixie Nicholson, Kayee Bayley.

Today’s match proved to be the most successful match so far this season for the U15 squad, showing that the squad are continuing to make progress.

Bradley O Connor made his debut for the squad and proved to be a  very worthy member by winning his singles in a very hard fought match 19-21, 21-15, 21-15 and also a doubles match with his partner Tom Reddaway 21-16, 13-21, 21-14. Rhys Coates and Tom Garty also won a well fought  doubles match 16-21, 21-18, 21-19.

Ellie Slawin also had success in her singles winning her match comfortably in two games, 21-13 and 24-22. This was the best I have seen Ellie play, she put her opponent under continual pressure, creating openings which she was able to put away to win the rally. Kayee Bayley also played very strongly in her singles today winning 22-20, 21-10.

Ellie continued her success in the doubles with her partner Jordana Dabinett by winning all 3 of her doubles matches in two games.

I was very pleased to see that Somerset also took 2 mixed games today, Tom Reddaway and Georgia Ley partnering each other for the first time won 21-13, 21-14 and Rhys Coates and Ellie Slawin succeeding in a 3 game match 13-21, 26-24, 13-21.

Well done to all that played today and look forward to further successes in our next matches. Next match is a friendly against Gloucester next Sunday. In this match we will be giving players in the squad who haven’t yet played a county match the opportunity to play.
