Friendly match v Jersey – 20/21st April – 2013

This weekend the Somerset U15 squad hosted Jersey’s U16 squad. Jersey were expected in January but due to snow falling on the Friday, before they were due to fly, the weekend was postponed. Fortunately this time the weather was much better and even allowed for a bit of sightseeing at Lyme Regis before arriving in Yeovil .

Jersey and Somerset played two matches, one on the Saturday and one on the Sunday at Westlands Sports Centre. Saturday’s game was a very close affair with Jersey winning 18 -17; unfortunately we had to concede one girls’ doubles due to injury. Each player had the opportunity to play 2 singles and 2 level doubles. After the match we held a social event at Westlands Leisure Complex. The food was great and both teams had an opportunity to play some skittles. Four of the Jersey boys stayed with Somerset players, two of them staying with the same person they stayed with last year.

On Sunday Jersey proved to be a little stronger and Somerset took 16 games to Jersey’s 28. The same format was played with everyone also having a game of mixed doubles.

The following players  represented Somerset on the Saturday -  Rhys Coates, Tom Garty,  Tom Reddaway, Dan Hiscock, Jamie Stanford, Will Rowe, Matt Bowditch and Tom Rose, Ellie Slawin, Jordana Dabinett and Jemma Reddaway.

On Sunday Rhys, the three Tom’s, Dan and Ellie represented the County again and Harry Russell, Josh Pepper, Charlie Johns, Georgia Ley, Kayee Bayley and Trixie Nicholson also played.

Everyone had a great time and Jersey presented Somerset with a trophy to mark their visit and provided all the players with Jersey badges. This was a great way to end a great season.

Well done to all the U15 squad who have shown a great commitment this season to the team and as a result has made much progress. Amy and I have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity, and wish you all continued success. Thank-you to the parents for your support throughout the season.
