Somerset success at GB Deaf Championships
The British Deaf Badminton Championships were held on Saturday 22nd March 2014 at the York Railway Institute Sports Centre. It was a good turn out with players travelling from all across the country to compete.
Kirstie Allen from Somerset participated in Singles and Mixed events. The first game proved to be the toughest, a shaky start Kirstie managed to win the first game 21-18 and the second 21-14. Her next two matches were challenging but more comfortable wins and therefore winning the singles title for the 6th year in a row.
She later joined current mixed doubles partner, Dominic Caswell, getting through to the final it was a tough match losing the first game 20-22 it was all to play for, but with some attaching play they finally came to win the next two games 21-18, 21-19.
Kirstie would like to thank James Elkin and Helen Manfield for their coaching and support over the years and Kirstie is now training for selection to the Deaf European Championships in Switzerland later this year.
