Somerset O40s vs Devon
Team: Mark Yeandle, Simon Ashenden, Andrew Carpenter, Jason Flagg, Nikki Harriss, Fiona Rooke, Sarah-Jane Trask, Wendy Field
Another match full of coughing by Wendy. A slightly odd start to the match. But all the games eventually got going. The Somerset team expected to be sharing the hall with another match, but that had finished early and the players all gone leaving the 40s match able to use 4 courts again.
Simon and Mark lost in a tight 3 ender, but there was some concern when Mark admitted to having struck his head with his racket while trying to hit a shot aimed close to his head. Andrew and Jason were not able to keep up with the second pair.
Nikki and Fiona managed a comfortable. Sarah-Jane and Wendy lost in a tight 2 setter probably beaten by the lack of power attack from the opposition.
Simon and Marks game was slightly delayed while Mark recovered under the ministerings of Sarah-Jane and Simon in the mens changing rooms. This also slightly delayed 1 of the ladies doubles. Simon and Mark managed a good win in 3 sets, but Jason and Andrew lost in 2. Sadly the boys had only managed to win 1 of their levels.
Through more incessant coughing by Wendy and some limping, she and Sarah-Jane managed to beat the 1st pair in a tight 3 setter. Fiona and Nikki had another smooth victory to leave the match all square going into the mixed.
Simon and Fiona decided to take the long way round, but managed a nice win in 3 sets. Nikki and Jason took a 2 set win at 2nd mixed and Mark and Sarah-Jane had a smiley win at 3rd mixed. Wendy and Andrew struggled to find a rhythm and lost in 2.
Well done team. Another post match natter with each other at the opposition in and around the kitchen. Good food too team.
Result Somerset win 7-5
