Somerset 1 v Guernsey

Guernsey had a very different team to the last couple of seasons with the men in particular looking far stronger.

Martin Hoyland, twice, and current Somerset Restricted Singles winner was making his first county appearance playing 1st mens singles. A very close game saw Guernsey take it 21-19 in the third end.

Pete Fairey lost in two close ends at 2nd singles.

Amy Reddaway won 1st singles in two ends.

Laura Newman needed a quick change out of her ‘Kinky Boots’ to beat the 2nd singles player in two ends.

Match score 2-2 after the singles.

Pete Fairey & Barry Harriss beat their 1st mens doubles opposite numbers easily in the first end, but at 29 all in the 2nd end things didn’t look quite so easy, thankfully nerves were held and the game was won.

Dean Martin & Andy Mullen lost to the 2nd mens pair with the 2nd end being very close.

Match score 3-3

Kelly Fairey &Laura Newman at 1st ladies doubles beat the Guernsey pair in two ends.

Amy Reddaway & Claire Harrison beat the 2nd pair in three ends.

Match score 5-3

Both mens pairs lost their second games two ends.

Match score 5-5

The ladies then continued their good performance and won both their second games easily in two ends.

Match score going into the mixed doubles 7-5.

Pete & Laura at 1st mixed won their game easily in two ends.

Barry & Kelly at 2nd lost their 1st end but won the next two to win their game.

Andy and Amy at 3rd, had a real close battle just losing 17-21 in the third end

Final match score was a solid 9-6 win to take two points, once again Somerset indebted to their ladies.
