02/11/2014 13:00

Venue: Crewkerne

Somerset’s second match of the season saw them at home facing a very youthful Avon team.

Both Pete Fairey playing 1st singles and Dean Martin playing 2nd singles lost in two ends, although Pete got very close in both his ends.

Amy Reddaway and Laura Newman (no Kinky Boots this match) were very dominant and won both their ladies singles in two ends.

Match score 2-2 after the singles.

Pete Fairey & Barry Harriss won 1st mens doubles  in three close ends.

Dean Martin & Andy Mullen lost to the 2nd mens pair in two close ends.

Match score 3-3

Kelly Fairey & Laura Newman at 1st ladies doubles, and Amy Reddaway & Claire Harrison at 2nd were far too strong for the Avon, Ding-Dong ...... Ladies and beat them easily in two ends.

Match score 5-3

Pete & Barry won their second mens game again very closely in three ends.

Dean Martin & Andy Mullen lost their second mens game in three ends.

Match score 6-4

Kelly Fairey & Laura Newman  won their second game easily in two ends, but a broken racquet for Claire at a crucial point in their second end meant they needed a third end to win their game.

Match score going into the mixed doubles 8-4, which meant the match was already won with just two mixed wins needed for ten games and maximum points.

Pete & Laura at 1st mixed won in two ends.

Barry & Kelly at 2nd lost a close game 19-21 in the third end.

Andy and Amy at 3rd, had a really game and did well to win it 21-18 in the third end for maximum points.

A good team performance meant the final match score was a very welcome 10-5 win to take the maximum three points and move Somerset to the top of the table.  Next up is home to Berkshire 30th November, hopefully the current run of results will continue.
