Junior Pathways explained

Most people start their Badminton journey at school. Its just the first step and doesnt have to stop there. Your next step might be to find a local junior club to get more coaching. These clubs have good coaching and will encourage many players to join the county development cells (details at the bottom of this page). If you have a look at the Juniors Calendar you can see all of the development cell dates and times and there is some general information on each of the cells at the bottom of this page.

From the development cells the age group squads are chosen. These squads train together regularly with the Team Coach/Manager, who choses the team and comes to the matches to coach and support the team. As you get older, a new option of entering senior clubs could open up for you including the possibility of playing in local leagues. From there better players can progress into the senior county training and possibly into the senior county teams. Well that is the usual route, but everyone is different so their route could vary in all sorts of ways as shown below.

The journey starts by picking up a racket and having a go.

You never know how much you will enjoy it or how good you can be until you have a go.

Any questions please ask through Feedback, your school coach/teacher or your school School Sports Co-ordinator or find your nearest junior club under "Clubs for juniors".

For some of you older juniors, you can find some like minded people on FaceBook ("I play Badminton in Somerset").
